Hello all. Ryan here. Decided out of the blue to write a little something. It’s completely obvious at this point to anyone that knows me or follows Greek Fire that I absolutely love playing the guitar in this band. I love it. I love it. I love it. There isn’t a single day that goes by that I don’t have my guitar in my hands, writing and working for this band. I believe in this band and these guys more than anything- but maybe even more importantly I believe that there are tons of people out there that still love rock music. I believe that there are tons of people out there who, like me, are waiting for a new rock band to come along and knock my fucking socks off and just floor me. I believe that rock music is not dead, and that spirit of energy, intensity, recklessness, and emotion is alive in so many of us and waiting to be unleashed by honest, authentic rock music with no strings attached or ulterior motives other than to make you FEEL SOMETHING. I believe there are people out there who want something with depth, something more thought provoking than the latest top 40 single. If I am describing you, know this: The “experts” say that you no longer exist. They say that unless it sounds like robots singing over 808 loops it’s not “profitable” and therefore irrelevant. I disagree. There are people waiting for great rock music to come along and completely move them and make them feel alive. The problem is that most contemporary rock music, in my humble opinion, has gotten very stale, safe, and insincere- and i think a lot of people are bored by it. People know when they are trying to be sold something. They know when it’s not pure. But here’s the kicker, something I never thought i would say: Some of this new pop music and top 40 music is actually really good and creative. Some of these people are actually artists and not poor puppets destined to be exploited, chewed up, and spit out to be forgotten. My job, our job, in Greek Fire is to make music for the sake of making great art, not to try and sell people something false just to make the almighty buck, because honestly, I could quit doing this band right now and write bullshit all day and be rich- that is the reality of the music business that you do not want to know about. But that is not the spirit of Greek Fire and I am so happy that mindset is translating. I think people know we are making music with a purpose. We are a rock band. But we are also a pop band. We want to bring art and honesty to the pop world, with a big, fat, dose of that fuck-it-all-rock and roll spirit. Sometimes we want to rip your head off with energy, sometimes we want to make love to you, but we will always be honest with you. And we will always be moving forward and experimenting. If i have a point, it’s this: trends come and go, what’s cool now will not be in 5 years, the tide is always changing. But if you do it from the heart, for the right reasons, and with sincerity, people will always gravitate toward it. Great art will survive, just like rock music will. Now I am going to feed my squirrel some peanuts. Your friend, Ryan.
